The source the I decided to review for this module is the Jake Thomas Learning Centre. It is a learning centre started by the late Jake Thomas who was a leading proponent of Iroquoian culture. The source is meant to be a tool used by educators in order to learn first hand about how the Iroquois culture developed.(jakethomaslearningcentre.ca)
I believe that this resources was included over others because it gives legitimate first hand accounts as well as artifacts to show exactly how this nation, in this case Iroquois developed throughout its history. One of the objectives of the Jake Thomas center as written on the websites states,"to research and learn first hand about the history and development of the Iroquoian people."(jakethomaslearningcentre.ca) I believe in order to be a quality academic website you not only need to have legitimate information available but also be able to show the direct sources and locations of where the information stems from. I think that the Jake Thomas Centre website can easily be put into the category of a quality academic website. It not only gives information about the Iroquois but does so through the use of first hand accounts and resources that can be directly linked to that of the Iroquois nation.
I think that my overall views of native communities has not so much changed but been enhanced in a major way. The sheer pride and love that Natives have for their people and community is much more deep and rich than I had ever given credit for in the past. Just the existence of a place like the Jake Thomas Learning Centre goes to show how much pride and love he had for his Native peoples. In the bio of the late Jake Thomas on the Learning Centre website its says that "Jake hand-made many different types of arts objects to support and preserve the oral tradition of passing on the longhouse speeches he learned to recite during his life time."(jakethomaslearningcentre.ca) To dedicate that kind of time and effort in order to preserve practices of your native culture really says a lot about the respect and love one can have for their ancestors and their past ways of life.
